The Hong Kong Public Libraries (HKPL) organises the “4.23 World Book Day Creative Competition” in 2022 on the theme, “Surrounded by the Scent of Books.Joy of Reading in 60 Years”, in support of the World Book Day on 23rd April and celebration of the 60th anniversary of HKPL. The competition, which integrates with reading and creativity, aims to broaden and deepen the reading scope of children and youth that they are able to enlighten and enrich their lives with reading and wise use of library.

Entry Requirements
Junior Primary (P1 - P3)
Theme: "Happy Anniversary to My Favorite Library _________"
Draw a single-sided crayon greeting card cover to your favorite public library to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Hong Kong Public Libraries in 2022.
Senior Primary (P4 - P6)
Chinese / English
Theme: “The Inspiring Picture Book”
Write a letter to your teacher, family member or friend to introduce and share a picture book, printed or electronic book published in the recent 60 years from which you are inspired. Write your own topic for the letter.
300 - 400 words (including all punctuations)
Junior Secondary (S1 - S3)
Chinese / English
Theme: “Read • Growth”
Select a biography which is about a great person born or died in the period of 1962 to 2022. Write a book report to introduce the printed book or electronic book and share why it is inspirational and enlightening. Write your own topic for the book report.
650 - 800 words (including all punctuations)
Senior Secondary (S4 - S6)
Chinese / English
Theme: “Reading is Always a Good Idea”
Reading time is one of the fondest memories in many people’s lives. Write an essay to illustrate your reading experience and share your views on “Reading is Always a Good Idea” through reading more than one piece of reading materials (including at least one printed book or electronic book). Write your own topic for the essay.
1,000 - 1,200 words (including all punctuations)

Junior Primary Category - 25
Senior Primary Chinese Category - 15 ; Senior Primary English Category - 8
Junior Secondary Chinese Category - 15 ; Junior Secondary English Category - 8
Senior Secondary Chinese Category - 12 ; Senior Secondary English Category - 5
A book coupon at HK$500, a medal and a certificate will be awarded to each winner. A trophy will also be awarded to the school of each award winner.
Submission Deadline
5 January 2022 (For entries sent by post, the postmark date will be regarded as the date of submission. Late submission and mail items with insufficient postage will not be accepted. For entries sent by forwarded email, the forwarded email date will be regarded as the date of submission. Late submission will not be accepted.)
Adjudication Panel
Teachers and members from the education profession and related organisations.
Announcement of Result
Result will be announced in April 2022. Schools of award winners will receive individual notification to receive prizes. Roving exhibitions of the winning entries will be held at Hong Kong Public Libraries from late April onwards.
