The Hong Kong Public Libraries (HKPL) organises the “Young Storytelling Ambassador Scheme” to recruit and train young people to become Young Storytelling Ambassadors, in order to inspire them to tell stories in an innovative way to enhance the pleasure of reading for the audience, and to promote a reading culture in the community.

Training Session
The training under the scheme will be provided in two phases. Each phase will align with the main theme and quarterly events to ensure that participants will be able to put their learning into practice. The training will be conducted in Cantonese and is scheduled to commence in March 2024, with a total of 38.5 hours.
Phase I Storytelling Techniques and Digital Media Production
Instructors will explain and demonstrate the storytelling process, share tips on book selection, and teach storytelling techniques as well as ways to deliver a presentation in a lively and captivating manner to engage the audience and arouse their interest in reading. In addition, in order to nurture participants to become creative and responsible online content creators, instructors will guide them through the entire process of online content creation, including content planning, data organisation and analysis, ways of presentation, content production and development of digital marketing strategies.

Phase II Event Planning and Short Video Production
Instructors will teach participants how to organise and plan activities effectively, and explain the steps and methods involved. Participants will be guided to design activities that are meaningful and tailored to meet the needs. Besides, guidance will be provided on how to write dialogues or scripts for video production at a later stage. Participants will also gain an understanding of digital photography and operation of video equipment, basic video production process, shooting techniques, scene setting and post-production skills. The training programme focuses on both theory and practice. Participants will select suitable storylines for video production, and their finished products will be shown during the quarterly service sessions.

Selection Procedure
Suitable applicants will be invited for interview on or before 15 January 2024. Applicants who do not receive any notification after the specified period may consider their applications unsuccessful.
Successful applicants will be notified by email and must attend the orientation session, to be eligible to become Young Storytelling Ambassadors.
The HKPL has the right to make the final decision on the selection results.
Ambassador Recognition Ceremony
Upon completion of the “Young Storytelling Ambassador Scheme”, Certificates of Appreciation will be awarded to those who have completed training with an attendance rate of 75% or above (received training for 29 hours or more) and have participated in at least three storytelling sessions. The Ambassador Recognition Ceremony will be held in April 2025 tentatively.
