Objectives

In order to develop a lifelong reading interest and habit, as well as to enjoy the fun of reading, parents are encouraged to read along with their children.

Format

Regular meetings will be held in the form of interactive activities to arouse children’s interest in reading. Reading materials may include printed or electronic books, chapters or excerpts of books, newspaper and periodical articles, multimedia resources and materials on selected topics.
In addition to regular meetings, talks and workshops on paired reading will also be organised to introduce to members the skills of parent-child reading.

Target Audience

Children from Kindergarten to Primary 3 who are registered readers of the Hong Kong Public Libraries, to be accompanied by a parent.

Details

8 to 15 family units for each reading club (one child and one parent as a family unit).
The frequency of meetings varies between different reading clubs. Each meeting lasts for around 1 hour to 1.5 hours. Electronic certificates will be awarded to members who achieve an attendance rate of 50%.
Members will be selected by individual libraries through open recruitment. Limited seats are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. For details, please refer to the libraries hosting the reading clubs.
