“Book”sible Library in Your Neighbourhood
The Hong Kong Public Libraries (HKPL) is committed to promoting a city-wide reading culture and providing diverse library services. To this end, the HKPL retrofits specially designed trucks as “Library-on-Wheels” to visit different communities and offer a variety of activities.
To give full play to the functions of the Library-on-Wheels, the HKPL will launch the special outreach programme - “Book”sible Library in Your Neighbourhood, where the library truck will be transformed and decorated according to different themes. Under the concept of “shops” this year, three unique shops, namely “Florist—The Blooming Beauty of Reading”, “Boutique—The Stories We Wear” and “Book Café—The Aroma of Books, Tea and Coffee” will be opened to present the endless possibilities in the world of books.
The library trucks and the venues will be transformed into special shops to allow members of the public to enjoy an immersive reading experience. There will be thematic reading zones with book displays on-site, along with an array of fun activities suitable for people of all ages, including trying out of electronic resources, thematic workshops, live demonstrations, as well as engaging storytelling sessions by story ambassadors, aiming to introduce relevant library collections and bring an entertaining and educational experience to participants.
