Description: Marriage marks a significant new stage of life for many couples, with wedding ceremonies and celebrations highlighting the rich traditions and culture of a society. In Hong Kong, the customs and registration associated with marriage reflect Hong Kong’s uniqueness in bringing together both Eastern and Western cultures. This exhibition will take the audience on a journey to revisit the development of marriage system and customs in Hong Kong and unveil lesser-known stories behind the archival records.

1/ Exhibition on Documents of Cantonese Attire in the Last Century

Date: 2025/5/1 (Thursday) to 2025/8/31 (Sunday)

Venue: Hong Kong Central Library (8/F Rare Book Reading Room)
Description: Cantonese attire, with the use of indigenous fabrics and unique clothing style, not only preserves traditional elements but also incorporates the styles of modern fashion. The document display explores the changes of Cantonese clothing, presenting people’s livelihood and willingness of trying new styles over the past century through old photographs, newspaper clippings, etc. collected through the Documents Collection Campaign.

This document display is also one of the activities in the Chinese Culture Promotion Series. The LCSD has long been promoting Chinese history and culture through organizing an array of programmes and activities to enable the public to learn more about the broad and profound Chinese culture.
