Marriage marks a significant new stage of life for many couples, with wedding ceremonies and celebrations highlighting the rich traditions and culture of a society. In Hong Kong, the customs and registration associated with marriage reflect Hong Kong’s uniqueness in bringing together both Eastern and Western cultures. This exhibition will take the audience on a journey to revisit the development of marriage system and customs in Hong Kong and unveil lesser-known stories behind the archival records. |

The streets pulse with the daily life of people there, while the names of streets and places embrace their stories behind. The document display showcases selected newspaper clippings, books, periodicals, maps and photos, etc., introduces the characteristics of street naming from the early years and the story behind the street nicknames. We can also witness the transformation of local livelihood and trajectory of urban development through different documents.
This document display is also one of the activities in the Chinese Culture Promotion Series. The LCSD has long been promoting Chinese history and culture through organizing an array of programmes and activities to enable the public to learn more about the broad and profound Chinese culture. The "Hong Kong Memory" website is a multimedia website that gives free and open access to digitized materials on the historical and cultural heritage of Hong Kong, including text documents, photographs, posters, sound recordings, motion pictures and videos. The website has been made available for public access since December 2012.
In order to increase the public awareness on this resourceful website, the Hong Kong Public Libraries will arrange a roving exhibition from 2024 to 2025 to introduce its origin, content structure and to visualize the characteristics of the "Hong Kong Memory" website. |

Conservation plays a vital role in safeguarding invaluable cultural heritage for future generations through a sustained commitment to care. This process encompasses two essential approaches: preventive and interventive conservation. The expertise of conservators extends beyond museums and is also applicable in our everyday lives, for example pest control.
Supplemented with video playback, the roving exhibition features the principles of conservation and the scope of work of a conservator. Showcasing various scientific instruments used for conservation research and analysis, and four selected case studies with many self-explanatory photos, the exhibition provides a holistic understanding of conservation to visitors in a lively and story-telling manner.
The roving exhibition also introduces common pests and useful tips for pest control at home, encouraging visitors to apply conservation practices into daily life and to raise public awareness of heritage conservation. |

With a history dating back around 3,000 years, the qin, or guqin as this Chinese zither is more commonly called today, is one of the oldest plucked musical instruments in China. The guqin ranks first among the traditional four arts of Chinese literati, along with chess, calligraphy and painting. Occupying a distinctive position in Chinese culture, the art of guqin music was designated a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by the UNESCO in 2003 and has thus been recognised as part of the world’s intangible cultural heritage. This exhibition will bring you a wonderful world of guqin music.
