Photographs capture transient moments. As they are duplicated, the moments are preserved, rendering history tangible through visual documentation and allowing one to visualise scenes that are long gone. The Chinese photography collection of the Moonchu Foundation held by the Hong Kong Museum of History includes more than 20,000 photographic works and related books and periodicals. The majority date from the late 19th century to the early 20th century, documenting significant historical events and military campaigns alongside urban landscapes and folk customs of the period from both macro and micro perspectives. This exhibition presents selected photographs from this collection to reveal the visage of China a century ago. |

2025 marks the 80th Anniversary of Victory in the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, and the Government Records Service is organising this exhibition through archives, newspaper, and other collections, guiding visitors to revisit the indelible mark left by the Japanese Occupation and to explore fragments of the anti-Japanese history of the Hong Kong Independent Battalion of the Dongjiang Column. Before 1941, Hong Kong’s general public enjoyed a stable life, and the city was bustling with activity. However, during the Japanese Occupation of Hong Kong (1941–1945), both the lives of the people and the city’s appearance underwent significant changes. |

The Hong Kong Central Library, in collaboration with the Shanghai Children's Library, will present the exhibition "Shanghai - Hong Kong: Preserving Culture through Children's Reading". By introducing the history of the two libraries and their children's reading services, the exhibition allows readers from both cities to gain a deeper understanding of each other's library development and evolution of children's reading culture. The exhibition also highlights children's books related to the 24 solar terms, Chinese festivals and traditional Chinese culture through the "Bao Bao Explains the Solar Terms" display panels and a curated selection of books recommended by librarians from both places, with a view to promoting traditional Chinese culture, fostering a sense of shared cultural identity and cultivating a reading culture among children in Shanghai and Hong Kong. |
