1/ Surfing the Biotechnology: Introduction to Research and Treatment for Rare Diseases

Description: - The speaker will provide the audience an in-depth and easy-to-comprehend introduction to research and treatment for rare diseases, which includes definition of rare diseases, causes and types of rare diseases, as well as common rare diseases in Hong Kong. In addition, the speaker will introduce recent advances in the treatments for rare diseases as well as various reimbursement plans of approved rare disease drugs in different countries.

- It is expected that the talk would enhance audience’s understanding in how the modern biotechnology and medical advancements contribute to the areas of gene therapy and other new medical treatments for rare diseases.

Description: Since 1991, Hong Kong Public Libraries has organised bi-annually the "Hong Kong Biennial Awards for Chinese Literature". The Awards aims to commend the outstanding achievements of local writers, encourage continuing writing of quality Chinese literary books and promote publication of Chinese literature by local publishers. To further publicize the winning works of the Awards, Roving Exhibition on Introduction to Winning Entries of the 15th Hong Kong Biennial Awards for Chinese Literature in 2019 are organised.

Description: It is difficult for patients to express their feelings. They often feel depressed and exhausted till they totally break down. The speaker will share with us some communication skills that may help these patients to release themselves from negative emotions.

Description: How to attain an inner peace? Firstly, we need to know how to settle our heart through introspection. It is a kind of self-discipline through prayers, fasting, charity acts, etc. Primarily, we need to go back to our heart, understand our real self. Our heart will then be settled.

Description: We have basic emotions and complex emotions. It is fundamental to know about these emotions before managing them. The speaker will explain to us the characteristics of these emotions and the management.
