Special Opening Hours and Maintenance of Library System

Hong Kong Public Libraries will have special opening hours on 24 December 2025 (Christmas Eve) and will be closed whole day from 25 to 26 December 2025 (Christmas Day and the First Weekday after Christmas Day). Online services, Self-service Library Station services and the real-time loan record update function at smart book return facilities will also be suspended from 0:30 a.m. on 25 December 2025 to 7:00 a.m. on 27 December 2025 for the maintenance work of the library system.

Description: The exhibition celebrates the life and works of Jules Verne, a key figure in French literature and a pioneer of science fiction. It will feature his famous novels, including Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, Around the World in Eighty Days, and From the Earth to the Moon. Verne's works have profoundly influenced literature and popular culture, making him one of the most translated authors globally, with extensive publications in China and in Chinese.

1/ "Glorious Voyage: Splendid Achievements of the People’s Republic of China in Its 75 Years" Roving Exhibition

Date: 2025/9/1 (Monday) to 2026/2/28 (Saturday)

Venue: Sham Shui Po Public Library (1/F, Multi-Purpose Display and Reading Area)
Description: Over the past 75 years, China has seen a substantial rise in its composite national strength, becoming a pivotal player in the global economic landscape while achieving a historic leap toward a moderately prosperous society in all respects for its people. Infrastructure investments have expanded rapidly, with significant advancements in transportation. Cultural undertakings have also flourished, with the country’s soft power substantially enhanced. Talented athletes have consistently attained outstanding success, transforming the country from a major contender to becoming a sports powerhouse. A range of green-development initiatives has been successfully implemented, promoting harmonious coexistence between humanity and nature. The exhibition aims to convey interesting information in a relaxed and lively manner, showcasing extraordinary achievements of contemporary China through various themes.

1/ Exhibition on Documents of Hong Kong Landscape Gardening

Venue: Hong Kong Central Library (8/F Rare Book Reading Room)
Description: Hong Kong possesses excellent geographical location and environment, therefore, its gardens are rich in distinctive features in plant landscaping, garden architecture and design details. In addition, Hong Kong has a number of Chinese-style landscape gardens, creating a unique local character. As the society evolves and revitalization continues, gardens in Hong Kong are being enhanced in terms of functions, scenery, and ecology. An exhibition on documents related to Hong Kong landscape gardening is held in the Hong Kong Central Library. Readers can gain more insights into its development and characteristics.

This document display is also one of the activities in the Chinese Culture Promotion Series.
