Since 1991, Hong Kong Public Libraries has organised bi-annually the "Hong Kong Biennial Awards for Chinese Literature". The Awards aims to commend local writers for their outstanding achievements and encourage them to continue creating quality Chinese literary works, as well as promote publication of these quality works by local publishers. To further publicize the winning works of the Awards, Roving Exhibition of the Successive Winning Books of the Hong Kong Biennial Awards for Chinese Literature are organised.

Legends of Bamboo: Bamboo Culture in Classical Chinese Literature
Bamboo has been a popular subject of appreciation in China from past to present. Apart from its diverse applications in our daily lives, it is also a symbol of the distinctive virtues of modesty and uprightness that reflect ideal qualities in a person, in turn forming a unique bamboo culture. This lecture will introduce bamboo culture in classical Chinese literature, and will share with the audience the elegant character of bamboo through the appreciation of poems, paintings and music on the subject.
