The city has always been a source of inspiration for writers who want to capture, as well as re-imagine, the cityscape and the urban experience. Drawing upon texts written by writers from Hong Kong to Britain, this workshop (comprising a lecture and group discussion) will provide an opportunity for participants to explore the various ways in which the writers represent, narrate and re-imagine the city.
The Hong Kong Public Libraries (HKPL) of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department will organise the 12th Hong Kong Literature Festival from 28 June to 15 July 2018. A pre-festival competition titled“Literary Performance Competition”is being held to enhance the pleasure of reading and stimulate students’self-learning ability through interpretation, by means of vocal expression and body language, of what they know and understand about a literary work. Participants, either on their own or with a partner, are required to give an interpretation of a Chinese story of their choice in the form of storytelling. The time limit for each performance is 5 minutes. Local primary students are welcomed to participate.
The 12th Hong Kong Literature Festival - Pre-festival Competition: "The Bloom of Youth" Chinese Writing Competition
The Hong Kong Public Libraries (HKPL) of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department will organise the 12th Hong Kong Literature Festival from 28 June to 15 July 2018. Members of the public are welcome to participate in the pre-festival Chinese writing competition titled “The Bloom of Youth”. Participants are required to write an essay in CHINESE for not more than 2000 words (including punctuation) and may assign a title to their essays. The entry should be about the experiences and thoughts of youth in the form of a narrative or expressive work. All entries will be judged on their literariness, forcefulness and emotional expressiveness.
Roving Exhibition on the Successive Winning Books of the Hong Kong Biennial Awards for Chinese Literature
Since 1991, Public Libraries has organized the Hong Kong Biennial Awards for Chinese Literature to encourage Hong Kong writers' pursuit of excellence as well as local publishers to publish quality literary books. To further publicize the winning works of the Awards, Roving Exhibition of the Successive Winning Books of the Hong Kong Biennial Awards for Chinese Literature are organized.
