The 13th Hong Kong Literature Festival Thematic Exhibition – “Let’s Create”: Literary Arts Scheme for Students
To promote literary creation and reading, the Hong Kong Public Libraries (HKPL) of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department will organise the 13th Hong Kong Literature Festival on the theme of “Moments in Literature” from 22 June to 12 July 2020. This year, as part of the thematic exhibition, literary panels created by secondary school students will be displayed. These panels provide a glimpse of how the youth look at Hong Kong literature, with a view to arousing their interest in reading and exploring literature.

To promote literary creation and reading, the Hong Kong Public Libraries (HKPL) of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department will organise the 13th Hong Kong Literature Festival from 22 June to 12 July 2020. Members of the public are welcome to participate in the pre-festival Chinese writing competition titled “Childhood Memories”. Participants are required to write an essay in CHINESE for not more than 2000 words (including punctuation) and may assign a title to their essays. The entry should be about their lives, experiences and emotions in childhood in the form of a descriptive, narrative or expressive work. All entries will be judged on their literariness, forcefulness and emotional expressiveness.

The Hong Kong Public Libraries (HKPL) of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department will organise the 13th Hong Kong Literature Festival from 22 June to 12 July 2020. A pre-festival competition titled “Literary Performance Competition” is being held to enhance the pleasure of reading and stimulate students’ self-learning ability through interpretation, by means of vocal expression and body language, of what they know and understand about a literary work. Participants, either on their own or with a partner, are required to give an interpretation of a Chinese story of their choice in the form of storytelling. The time limit for each performance is 5 minutes. Local primary students are welcomed to participate.

Since 1991, Hong Kong Public Libraries has organised bi-annually the "Hong Kong Biennial Awards for Chinese Literature". The Awards aims to commend local writers for their outstanding achievements and encourage them to continue creating quality Chinese literary works, as well as promote publication of these quality works by local publishers. To further publicize the winning works of the Awards, Roving Exhibition on Introduction to Winning Entries of the 15th Hong Kong Biennial Awards for Chinese Literature in 2019 are organised.

Reading Workshop - Writing the City: Memory and Place
The city has always been a source of inspiration for writers who want to capture, as well as re-imagine, the cityscape and the urban experience. Writers frequently invoke their memory to construct a sense of place, and narrate their own urban experience. This workshop, comprises of a lecture and a creative writing exercise, will provide an opportunity for participants to explore texts written in different cultural contexts, and to compose their own autobiographical narratives set in the city of Hong Kong.
