Xi’an Drum Music (Guyue) has roots dating back to the Sui and Tang Dynasties. It embodies the elegance of court music as well as the richness and grandeur of Tang and Song music. In recognition of its cultural significance, Xi’an Guyue was designated one of the China’s first national intangible cultural heritage items in 2006, and was inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2009. The Music Office will curate a series of ‘Xi’an Guyue’ exhibitions to introduce the development, styles, musical instruments and performance formats of Xi’an Guyue. The exhibition will be roved at various public libraries. |

Hong Kong possesses excellent geographical location and environment, therefore, its gardens are rich in distinctive features in plant landscaping, garden architecture and design details. In addition, Hong Kong has a number of Chinese-style landscape gardens, creating a unique local character. As the society evolves and revitalization continues, gardens in Hong Kong are being enhanced in terms of functions, scenery, and ecology. An exhibition on documents related to Hong Kong landscape gardening is held in the Hong Kong Central Library. Readers can gain more insights into its development and characteristics.

Hong Kong drama has developed since the post-war period. Since the 1970s, many drama clubs and large-scale performing arts groups have been established, indicating the further growth of local performing arts culture. As some theatre troupes gradually developed and local screenwriting talents joined in, creative drama became more prosperous and received more attention in the 1980s and 1990s. Afterwards, the development of Hong Kong drama became more mature. The exhibition showcases selected documents include playscripts and house programmes, etc., readers can understand more about documents on Hong Kong Drama.

The Chinese photography collection of the Moonchu Foundation held by the Hong Kong Museum of History includes more than 20,000 photographic works and related books and periodicals. The majority date from the late 19th century to the early 20th century, documenting significant historical events and military campaigns alongside urban landscapes and folk customs of the period from both macro and micro perspectives. This exhibition presents selected photographs from this collection to reveal the visage of China a century ago. |

“The Six Steeds of Zhaoling” is a set of famous stone relief sculptures, depicting the six warhorses ridden by Emperor Taizong of Tang, Li Shimin, during his military campaigns. The workshop uses one of the horses from the sculptures as the basis. The instructor will teach participants how to create collage art using thick fabric, cardboard, and shiny handmade paper to highlight the dynamic movement of the royal warhorses. |
