Cheongsam and Cantonese opera respectively symbolize the intangible cultural heritage of “dress aesthetics” and “performing arts.” By examining their historical development in Hong Kong, we will analyse contemporary practices of cultural transmission. The discussion will focus on concrete teaching methods, performance formats, and community engagement used today to preserve and promote these cultural heritages and will explore how these traditional arts adapt to the contemporary cultural environment to ensure their continued viability.
