SUMMARY
Topic (1) : A Path to Language Recovery Following Stroke: Neurological Functions, Impairments, and Therapy
Every year, around 12,000 stroke cases have been admitted to public hospitals in Hong Kong. Stroke is a major cause of disability in adults, and language impairment is one of the common consequences of stroke. Difficulties in understanding language, troubles with finding words to express, and unclear speech could greatly affect communication and activities of daily living. This talk provides an overview of language processing in the brain, review symptoms of language impairment following stroke, examine language recovery with speech therapy, and discuss possibilities of new treatment with reference to local research evidence.
