Special Opening Hours and Maintenance of Library System

Hong Kong Public Libraries will have special opening hours on 31 December 2025 (New Year's Eve) and will be closed whole day on 1 January 2026 (The First Day of January). Online services, Self-service Library Station services and the real-time loan record update function at smart book return facilities will also be suspended from 0:30 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. on 1 January 2026 for the maintenance work of the library system.

To tie in with the first Hong Kong Reading for All Day on April 23, 2024,  the Hong Kong Public Libraries (HKPL) collaborated with various stakeholders to organise the first Hong Kong Reading Week from April 20 to 28. A series of large-scale, territory-wide reading activities were launched for the public to enjoy the pleasure of reading, so as to foster a citywide reading ambience and helping to build Hong Kong into a city of avid readers.  Under the theme of "Self/LIBRARY", the first Hong Kong Reading Week will feature a variety of online and offline activities suitable for people of all ages.
