The Hong Kong Central Library opened in 2001 and launched the Documents Collection Campaign and Hong Kong Music Collection Campaign in the same year. The two campaigns aim to collect literary documents related to Hong Kong and Mainland China, arouse public awareness of the preservation of local literary documents and promote research in local culture. This exhibition features some precious collectibles which aims to give readers a better understanding of the accomplishments of the two campaigns over the years.

Hong Kong movies began to develop in the early 20th century and experienced many changes. By the 1960s and 1970s, Hong Kong movies became famous internationally. They won many international awards, and the export volume was once second to Hollywood, becoming the second largest movie exporter. The exhibition showcases some selected documents include movie scripts, handbills and film brochures, revealing the development and characteristics of the local movie industry of that period.

Harold Han-tseung WEI (1906-1993), also known as the “Weed Poet”, is a renowned poet in Hong Kong. He composed more than 300 lyrical works in his life time, including The Eternal Lament, Home Under White Clouds and Parting at River Yi. He made remarkable contribution to the development of modern Chinese music in Hong Kong.

The exhibition showcases the manuscripts of the poet, house programmes, books and photographs, etc. Readers can find out more about the Maestro.
