The development of Chinese characters has a long and rich history, beginning with the pottery inscriptions in the late Neolithic period, progressing to the oracle bone scripts and bronze inscriptions in the Shang and Zhou dynasties, and evolving through small seal scripts after the unification by Qin to clerical scripts during the Qin and Han periods. By the Tang dynasty, Chinese writing system had fully matured and the art of calligraphy scaled new heights. As of today, Chinese characters continue to embody the wisdom of the past and demonstrates the charm of Chinese culture. The exhibition will use simple writings, images of artefacts and vivid illustrations to showcase the development and cultural connotations of Chinese characters.

The exhibition aims at promoting public’s interest and awareness in Chinese history and culture, enhancing the sense of belonging and affection for our country, as well as introducing the public to the use of related collections.

Exhibition on Liang Qichao and the Library Development in China
Liang Qichao made significant contributions to the modern library industry in China, and was the pioneer and founder of China's modern library industry. With the aims to inherit and promote Mr. Liang Qichao's patriotic spirit and his outstanding contributions to the Chinese library industry, the exhibition will introduce Mr. Liang Qichao's profound connection with the library industry from six sections to foster the high-quality development of China's library industry.
This exhibition is also one of the activities in the Chinese Culture Promotion Series. The LCSD has long been promoting Chinese history and culture through organizing an array of programmes and activities to enable the public to learn more about the broad and profound Chinese culture.
