This talk begins with the origins of Hong Kong martial arts novels, tracing the state of the genre before it became popular in the city. Centred on Jin Yong’s martial arts novels, the talk discusses the breakthroughs in local martial arts fiction and how Jin Yong raised the status of this genre of fiction. It also gives an overview of the development of martial arts novels in the post-Jin Yong era.
