Resonance of Artefacts

Upcoming Activity

Resonance of Artefacts: Conserving Artefacts and Preserving Memories
Date: 2026/11/14 (Saturday)
Time: 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Venue: Hong Kong Central Library (Lecture Theatre, G/F.)
Description: Every artefact bears the traces of everyday life, holding stories tied to the city and its community. What makes them so moving is not merely their past, but the wear and marks that they have preserved, markings that silently narrate the people and stories of the past. Through various case studies, the talk will explore how artefacts embody Hong Kong’s social memory, community history, and personal stories. The speaker will also introduce the principles and methods of conservation, sharing how volunteer participation transforms conservation work into an opportunity to encounter history and a way to reconnect with the past. Through these stories, we discover that conserving an artefact is a way to meticulously preserve a memory.
