Extensive research has been conducted previously on various social aspects of Hong Kong at that time, in particular, the destruction brought by the Japanese military regime to the economy and people’s livelihood. This talk will introduce the research project of “Hong Kong under the Japanese Occupation, 1941-1945” which has been carried out by the Department of History at the Hong Kong Baptist University since 2022. The project team makes use of geographic information systems (GIS) to analyse various issues from the administration, economy, military development, public health to culture and entertainment of the territory during the Japanese occupation. The impact of Japanese occupation on Hong Kong, the role of Hong Kong in the war, and the lives of Hong Kong people during the war will be re-examined. |

| Description: | With a long history, paper art has seen extensive use in everyday life. Apart from celebrations and rituals, paper art is also frequently found in window dressing designs of large international brands. Ordinary pieces of paper can turn into unique artworks as we fold and assemble them by hand, change the way they look with various tools and techniques, and channel our personal emotions into them. Paper art is rich in essence and versatile in use. Exquisite works of paper art not only enrich our lives and enlighten our minds, but also serve as learning and therapeutic tools, which allow the artists to gain better learning and therapeutic results while enjoying the fun of creating paper crafts. In this talk, Mr David CHAN Chiu-wing, a master of paper art, will share with us how creative thinking is applied to paper art and guide us to appreciate paper art from different perspectives in a bid to cultivate creative thinking. |
