Notes on Application for Students’ Study Room Admission Card (Applicable to the examination season from March to May in 2021)

A. From 15 March to 20 May 2021

1. Students’ study rooms of the Hong Kong Public Libraries (“HKPL”) will be open daily in three sessions as follows:

Morning : 8:00 am - 12:30 pm
Afternoon : 12:45 pm - 5:15 pm
Evening : 5:30 pm - 10 pm (Monday - Friday)
5:30 pm - 9:30 pm (Saturday, Sunday and public holidays)

2. HKPL registered readers can apply for an admission card for priority allocation of a seat during the first 15 minutes in one of the above sessions.

3. Applicants can only submit ONE application and opt for ONE admission session, otherwise their applications will be rejected. The application deadline and results announcement date are as follows:

4. Applicants shall submit a completed application form by post* or in person# to the public library where the selected students’ study room is located.
* For submission of application by post: the completed application form shall be sent before the deadline and mark “Application for Students’ Study Room Admission Card 2021” on the envelope. The postmark date on the envelope shall be taken as the date of application. Please make sure that all mail items bear sufficient postage, the HKPL will not accept any underpaid mail items and such items will be handled by the Hongkong Post.
# Applicants should take note of the latest arrangement on the library services and opening hours announced by HKPL. Application forms and notes on application will be available at the public libraries provided with SSR upon their reopening and applicants can submit the completed application forms in person to the reopened library where the selected students’ study room is located on or before the application deadline.
#For submission of application in person: the applicants shall produce their HKPL library cards and proof of their candidate status (school candidates for HKDSE not yet received their admission forms shall produce a valid student card / student handbook) for verification.

5. The number of seats in students’ study room will be reduced to allow distancing. If the number of applications exceeds the places available for allocation, allocation will be determined by the drawing of lots. 95% of the places will be reserved for applicants sitting for public examinations (e.g. Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSE), International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE), etc. ) or professional examinations while the remaining 5% will be allocated to other applicants.

6. Successful applicants shall collect their admission cards in person from the designated public library within the period specified in the results announcement notice. Applicants shall produce their identity documents upon collection of admission cards, and photos of the applicants will be stamped with a library seal. Applicants who have submitted their applications by post, shall also produce their HKPL library cards and proof of their candidate status (school candidates for HKDSE not yet received their admission forms shall produce a valid student card / student handbook) for verification. Applicants who fail to produce their HKPL library cards and proof of their candidate status will not be issued the admission cards.

7. Unsuccessful applicants will be issued with a standby card, which gives them priority in taking up any seats available in a specific session. Card collection procedure and documents required are the same as those mentioned in point 6 above.

8. If no admission card holders register for seats after the first 5 minutes of a session, the library staff have the right to reserve sufficient number of seats for these card holders for the next 10 minutes. Library staff will consider allocating the remaining seats available to users without an admission card on a first-come-first-served basis.

9. If users leave their seats for more than 15 minutes, library staff have the right to allocate the seats to other standby users.

B. From 1 to 14 March and 21 to 31 May 2021

1. The opening hours of the HKPL students’ study rooms will be open daily in three sessions as follows:

Morning : 8:00 am - 12:30 pm (Monday - Friday)
Afternoon : 12:45 pm - 5:15 pm
Evening : 5:30 pm – 10:00 pm (Monday - Friday)
5:30 pm - 9:30 pm (Saturday, Sunday and public holidays)

2. Seats are allocated on a first-come-first-served basis for each session and no admission card is required.
