Book Drop Service at 3 Major MTR Interchange Stations
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Q1: Why are these three major MTR interchange stations selected for the book drop service?
A1: After considering the location, passenger flow, logistic arrangements for returned books and availability of lifts of each interchange station, the LCSD and the MTRC finally decided to set up book drops at three major interchange stations, namely Central, Kowloon Tong and Nam Cheong Stations, to offer convenience to readers taking different MTR lines. Passengers travelling on the Island Line, Tsuen Wan Line and Airport Express can use the book drops at Central Station, while those travelling on the Kwun Tong Line and East Rail Line can use the book drops at Kowloon Tong Station; as for those on the Tuen Ma Line and Tung Chung Line, they can use the book drops at Nam Cheong Station.
Q2: Where are the book drops located in MTR stations?
A2: Four book drops are placed in the paid area of each of the three major interchange stations, namely Central, Kowloon Tong and Nam Cheong Stations. For the exact locations of book drops at each designated station, please refer to the promotional poster and leaflet of the scheme, or visit the website of the Hong Kong Public Libraries or the MTRC. They are also clearly shown on the location maps of the three MTR stations. For enquiry, please contact the staff of the stations.
Q3: Why are the book drops located only in the paid areas of the MTR stations?
A3: Book drops are provided in the paid areas of the MTR stations to facilitate the return of library materials by readers travelling on the MTR. Book drops are also available in public libraries across the territory to facilitate the return of library materials when the libraries are closed.
Q4: How to calculate the overdue fine of library materials returned through the MTR book drops?
A4: The date on which library materials are returned through the book drops will be taken as the return day. Library materials will not be treated as overdue as long as they are deposited in the book drops by their due dates.
Q5: How long does it take to update the loan record of a reader who has returned library materials through a MTR book drop? Can readers borrow library materials if their loan records have not yet been updated?
A5: Loan records of readers will be updated within 48 hours after the return of library materials through the book drops. Readers may check their updated loan records through the mobile app “My Library”, or the 24-hour enquiry services of the Hong Kong Public Libraries, the details of which are as follows:
Telephone enquiry : 2827 2833/ 2698 0002
Website enquiry : www.hkpl.gov.hk
Before the loan records are updated in the library automation system, the readers may not borrow library materials using the quota of the returned materials. The borrowing process for readers whose loan quotas for library materials have been exhausted cannot proceed. Therefore, if readers intend to borrow library materials soon after they have returned the borrowed materials, they should return the materials at the library service counter for an instant updating of their loan records.
Q6: What are the service hours of the book drops at the MTR stations?
A6: The book drops are available during the operating hours of the designated MTR interchange stations. For enquiries about the operating hours of the three major MTR interchange stations, please contact the staff of the stations.
Q7: How to seek assistance in case of difficulties in using the Book Drop Service at the MTR stations?
