Paired Reading Clubs

 

Introduction

Family Reading Clubs
 
 

 

Objective

To encourage parents to read with their children, to incubate sustainable reading interests and enjoy the fun of reading.

 

Activities

  1. Regular meetings in the form of interactive activities will be arranged to arouse children’s interest in reading. Reading materials may include printed and electronic versions of books, chapters or excerpts of books, newspapers, periodical articles, multimedia materials or selected articles on the related topics.
  2. In addition to regular meetings, paired reading talks and workshops will be arranged for members to promote and enhance the skills of parent-child reading.

 

Target Audience

Children from kindergarten to primary 3 who are registered readers of the Hong Kong Public Libraries, each to be paired with an accompanying parent.

 

Details

  1. About 8 -15 families per reading club (one child and one parent as a family unit).
  2. Members are required to attend 4 - 6 meetings (depending on the requirement of individual reading club), each at 1 hour to 1.5 hours. A certificate will be awarded to member who achieves an attendance rate of 75%.
  3. Members will be recruited through individual public libraries. Application forms are available at the libraries which hold the reading clubs. Members will be selected by drawing lots if the applications exceed the quota.
