SUMMARY
Topic (1) :The History of Equestrian Sports in Hong Kong and Singapore
The histories of Hong Kong and Singapore share much in common. This lecture will focus on the history of equestrian sports in both regions with horse-racing being the most prominent sub-category. First introduced by British elites, horse-racing grew to become a major source of entertainment with a gambling element for the public by the 1970s in both Hong Kong and Singapore. While the Singapore Turf Club finally closed last October, the Hong Kong Jockey Club continues to flourish. This lecture will explore the reason behind this divergence and will also discuss other forms of equestrian sports, such as polo, which are no less prominent but yet garner less attention than horse-racing.
Topic (2) : From Sports to Startups: Athletes Navigating in Entrepreneurial Ecosystems
From an entrepreneurial ecosystem perspective, this lecture will introduce how athletes transition from competitive arenas to entrepreneurial ventures. It will highlight the unique qualities that are invaluable in entrepreneurship, navigate the hurdles in entrepreneurial ecosystems and showcase strategies to overcome these challenges.
