Date: 2020/12/12 (Saturday)
Time: 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Description: When did the culture of Yu Lan Ghost Festival begin? How did Yu Lan Ghost Festival of the Chiu Chow community continue and evolve over time to carry the Buddhist concept of "merit"? Mr. Anven WU will trace the origin and development of Yu Lan Ghost Festival of the Chiu Chow community, and explore how the cultural value and preservation of the festival reclaimed acknowledgement from the society despite the challenges encountered. Moreover, representatives of the Public Records Office will introduce the "Folk Festivals in Those Days..." exhibition of the Government Records Service. By revealing how three of the traditional festivals inscribed onto the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Hong Kong help consolidate the community, the speakers will demonstrate the way to appreciate the inheritance and evolution of the tradition culture.
