Special Notice

In view of the latest situation of COVID-19, library facilities including Hong Kong Central Library and the six major libraries (City Hall, Kowloon, Tsuen Wan, Sha Tin, Tuen Mun and Ping Shan Tin Shui Wai Public Library) reopened earlier this month will be temporarily closed starting from March 23 (Monday). Other public libraries and their Students’ Study Room, Mobile Libraries will continue to be temporarily closed until further notice. All book drop services of the Hong Kong Public Libraries and those located at three MTR stations as well as the self-service library stations at Island East Sports Centre Sitting-out Area, the Hong Kong Cultural Centre and Tsuen Nam Road, Tai Wai will also suspend services. During the period, public libraries will continue to provide online services such as e-Books and e-Databases. Overdue fines will not be generated for late return of library materials, due date of reservation pick up will be extended and the maximum number of renewal will be increased accordingly. To promote literary creation and reading, the Hong Kong Public Libraries (HKPL) of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department will organise the 13th Hong Kong Literature Festival from 22 June to 12 July 2020. Members of the public are welcome to participate in the pre-festival Chinese writing competition titled “Childhood Memories”. Participants are required to write an essay in CHINESE for not more than 2000 words (including punctuation) and may assign a title to their essays. The entry should be about their lives, experiences and emotions in childhood in the form of a descriptive, narrative or expressive work. All entries will be judged on their literariness, forcefulness and emotional expressiveness.

Form of Competition

For application forms submitted by post, the postmark date will be regarded as the date of application. Late submission will not be accepted.

Submission
•   Competition guidelines and application forms are obtainable from all public libraries and available for download on the HKPL website at www.hkpl.gov.hk.
•   Each entry should be submitted, by hand or by post, together with a completed application form to: Extension Activities Unit, Hong Kong Public Libraries, Rm 901, 9/F, Fa Yuen Street Municipal Services Building, 123A Fa Yuen Street, Mong Kok, Kowloon. Please mark “ ‘Childhood Memories’ Chinese Writing Competition of the 13th Hong Kong Literature Festival” on the envelope. For applications submitted by post, please ensure that sufficient postage is af-xed before posting. Any underpaid mail item will not be accepted by the HKPL and will be disposed of by the Hongkong Post. Result Announcement
Results will be announced in June 2020. Winners will be individually informed of the details of award presentation and prize collection. An exhibition of the winning entries will be held at the Hong Kong Central Library during the 13th Hong Kong Literature Festival.
