Latest arrangements on services of Hong Kong Public Libraries

In view of the latest situation of COVID-19, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) will adopt further measures to maintain social distancing. From 15 July 2020 (Wednesday), all public libraries and their students’ study room will be temporarily closed. All book drop services of the Hong Kong Public Libraries and those located at three MTR stations as well as the self-service library stations (at Island East Sports Centre Sitting-out Area, the Hong Kong Cultural Centre and Tsuen Nam Road, Tai Wai) will also suspend services. Public libraries will continue to provide online services such as e-Books and e-Databases. Overdue fines will not be generated for late return of library materials, due date of reservation pick up will be extended and the maximum number of renewal increased accordingly. All library programmes will be cancelled. Please refer to the library notice on the special arrangements details.

Since 1991, Hong Kong Public Libraries has organised bi-annually the "Hong Kong Biennial Awards for Chinese Literature". The Awards aims to commend local writers for their outstanding achievements and encourage them to continue creating quality Chinese literary works, as well as promote publication of these quality works by local publishers.


Eligibility Requirements for Entries
Entries must be original Chinese Literatures (not a translation) written by local writers and have been firstly published in Hong Kong within the period from 1 January 2017 to 31 December 2018 (as recorded in the Colophon), and have been officially registered in the Books Registration Office.

The Awards is divided into five categories, i.e. Poetry, Essay, Fiction, Literary Criticism, and Children and Youth Literature.

Poetry: Mr. KWAN Muk-hang, Mr. KWAN Wie-yeun, Prof. LIU Jun,
           Dr. NG Mei-kwan, Mr. WOO Kwok-yin
Essay: Prof. CHAN Che-shing, Prof. CHEN Qiang, Mr. CHEUNG Chi-wo,
             Mr. FUNG Wai-choi, Dr. WONG Chung-ming
Fiction: Dr. CHAN Tak-kam, Prof. CHOU Fen-ling, Ms. HON Lai-chu,
            Dr. WONG Pok, Prof. WONG Wai-leung
Literary Criticism: Dr. CHAN Kit-yee, Prof. CHEN Li-fen, Prof. CHENG Ming-lee,
                        Prof. LO Kwai-cheung, Prof. XU Zi-dong
Children and Youth Literature: Ms. CHAU Mat-mat, Dr. IP Sui-lin, Mr. TANG King-yu,
                                                         Mr. WANG Wen-hua, Ms. WONG Hung-kin
* Names arranged in alphabetical order

• One Biennial Award and One Recommended Prize will be bestowed to each category.
• The awardee of the Biennial Award will receive a cash prize of HKD80,000.
• The awardee of the Recommended Prize will receive a cash prize of HKD25,000.
• Awardees and their publishers in each category will be awarded a trophy respectively.


Submission of Nomination
Completed nomination forms with 6 copies of the nominated books should be submitted by registered mail or by hand within the working hour to : Extension Activities Unit, Hong Kong Public Libraries, Room 901, 9/F, Fa Yuen Street Municipal Services Building, 123A Fa Yuen Street, Mongkok, Kowloon.
Please mark “The 15th Hong Kong Biennial Awards for Chinese Literature” on the envelope.
(For nomination submitted by registered mail, please ensure that sufficient postage is affixed before posting. Any underpaid mail item will not be accepted by the Hong Kong Public Libraries and will be disposed of by the Hongkong Post.)

Deadline for Nomination
30 April 2019     6 p.m.
(For nomination submitted by registered mail, the postmark date will be regarded as the date of nomination. Late nomination and mail items with insufficient postage will not be accepted.)

Result Announcement
Result will be announced in November 2019. All awardees will be individually informed of the details of the award presentation and prize collection.
