Apabi eBook
Apabi is a large eBook library comprising book titles published in the Mainland. The Hong Kong Public Libraries has acquired a collection of about 30,000 items for reference use by our library cardholders. The eBook collection consists of two parts - "Sports & Fitness" and "Books on various subjects". The latter covers philosophy, social sciences, literature, arts, history, geography, natural science, medical and health etc.

Biography Resource Center (Download user guide - PDF)
It contains more than 427,000 biographies on more than 335,000 people gathered from more than 135 award-winning reference sources as well as full-text articles from nearly 300 magazines specifically chosen for their renowned biographical content in a broad range of subject areas.
The information contained within Biography Resource Center is perfect for a multitude of subject areas such as, but not limited to, science, multicultural studies, business, politics, government, history, entertainment, sports, arts, and literature.

A collection of more than 7,000 English electronic books is available for borrowing and online reading. The Collection, held at netLibrary (www.netlibrary.com), comprises reference books and other information books on a wide range of subjects. First-time users are required to create a personal user account at netLibrary via the Hong Kong Public Libraries Homepage.

Grolier Online comprises 5 databases: Encyclopedia Americana, Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia, The New Book of Knowledge, The New Book of Popular Science, Lands and People. It includes the fields of arts, social sciences, geography, history, philosophy, religious, sports and entertainment, science and technology etc.

Naxos Spoken Word Library (Download user guide - PDF)
It is an online collection of classic audiobook materials, largely on literary classics and educational themes. The collection covers more than 410 titles on classic novels, plays and poetry from medieval times to the 20th century. The full text of many titles can be followed on screen as it is being read. Whilst listening, users can also access informative notes about the work and the recording.

What Do I Read Next? (Download user guide - PDF)
What Do I Read Next? includes over 122,300 recommended titles, more than 66,700 plot summaries, and awards information from 568 awards, all to help users uncover new reading adventures, find long-remembered favorites, and discover award-winning titles. Search by genre, subject, author, title, series, and more. A monthly highlights page allows the user to see selections of award winners, upcoming titles, and titles that revolve around different subjects each month.

China Academic Journals Full-text Database (CAJ)
It offers full-text and full-image access to over 6,000 serials published in China in the fields of science and engineering, agriculture, medicine and hygiene, humanities, economics, politics and law, education and social sciences, electronics and information science. Articles are mainly written in Chinese and only some of them are English articles.
Attention: Only citation references are available free from the CAJ databases via the Internet. Full-text articles can only be viewed at workstations within libraries. Hong Kong Central Library provides all 9 series, City Hall Public Library provides the series on politics and law only, and Kowloon Public Library and Sha Tin Public Library provide the series on education and social sciences only. Please approach the Reference Library staff for arrangment on the access of the full-text articles.

China Doctoral /Master's Dissertations (CDMD)
It offers full-image access to over 80,000 dissertations from 300 academic institutions in China starting from 1999 onwards. The database is divided into 9 categories according to the subjects of the dissertations and our libraries have subscribed to 3 of them: Humanities (available at Hong Kong Central Library), Education and Social Sciences (available at Hong Kong Central Library and Kowloon Public Library), and Economics, Politics and Law (available at Hong Kong Central Library and City Hall Public Library).
Attention: Only brief citation references and summaries are available free from the CDMD databases via the Internet. Full-text dissertations of the 3 categories subscribed can only be viewed at the workstations of the libraries specified above. Please approach the Reference Library staff for arrangment on the access of the full-text dissertations.
