  Workstation Booking Service

Users with valid library card are welcome to use the workstation booking service of the Multimedia Information System (MMIS). They can complete the workstation booking process by the following steps:-

  • Click the Workstation Booking hyperlink at the home page of MMIS.
  • Select the Date of your booking from the pull down menu (System displays a default value of 7 days in advance).
  • Select the Booking Duration from the pull down menu (60 or 120 minutes).
  • Select the Workstation Group for the booking from the pull down menu.
  • Enter your fourteen digits Library Card Number or your HKID Card Number (Hong Kong Identity Card, e.g. "A1234567") as the User ID.
  • Enter your PIN Number (Personal Identity Number) or your registered Home Phone Number as the Password.
  • Click the 'Reset Form' button if you need to correct the above information.
  • Click the 'Select Time Slot' button to enter the page with the available time slots.
  • After verifying your User ID and Password, the system will display a page with the available time slots for that particular day. Users need to check the radio button in front of the chosen time slot and click the 'Confirm' button. System will verify the availability of the selected time slot and your booking status, and then confirm every successful booking with a message.

Conditions of booking services:

  1. Users have a daily limit of 2 sessions for workstation or content bookings for a maximum of 4 hours. The length of the workstation booking cannot be longer than two hours for each session and the length of the content booking cannot be longer than three hours for each session.
  2. Library card holders aged below 12 are only eligible to book the ATM and LAN workstations located at the Children's Library on 2/F.

Claim Booking for Workstation

Users need to claim their booking within 15 minutes before it starts or within 10 minutes after it begins (For example: A booking session begins at 12:00 up to 13:00, the effective time for users to claim booking is 11:45 to 12:10, a total of 25 minutes). Users can take either one of the following options to claim booking:

1. Claim Booking through Workstations within Your Chosen Workstation Group

Users can pick any workstation within their chosen Workstation Group and login the workstation under the status of Library Card Holders. Users need to input the same User ID and Password as those submitted in the booking process for authentication. Users are then free to use the workstation instantly.

2. Check the Location of the Assigned Workstation through the Self-Serve Workstations (applicable to the Hong Kong Central Library only)

If all workstations of the chosen Workstation Group are engaged, users can still be acknowledged the location of assigned workstation through the Self-Serve Workstations located at the Information Service Counter on each floor (except 7/F.) by the following steps:-

  • Click the 'Claim Booking' button on the main screen.
  • Enter your Library Card Number as the User ID.
  • Enter your PIN Number or your registered Home Phone Number as the Password.
  • Click 'OK' button to enter the profile of your booking records.
  • Choose the booking record that you are going to claim.
  • Click the 'Claim Booking' button and note down the assigned workstation number.
  • Remember to take the Acknowledgement Ticket issued by the ticket printer and go to login the assigned workstation with your User ID and Passwords and start using your booking session.

Hints for users to claim booking:

  1. User should successfully login the assigned workstation within 10 minutes after the booking time begins. Otherwise, the system will classify that the booking is failed to be claimed and will release and reallocate all the unclaimed workstations to other library users for ad hoc use.
  2. To have a better allocation of the library's resources, users will be denied to use the booking service for 7 consecutive calendar days if they have failed to claim their booking for three times within a month.
  3. Users are welcome to contact our counter staff if they have any enquiries on the booking services.
