Internet Access Services
1. Internet Workstation
The Hong Kong Public Libraries provides more than 470 Internet workstations in its static libraries to enable the public to

access the Library Catalogue, e-books, and online databases;

browse the Internet;
|
|

|
carry out secured electronic transactions with e-Cert embedded in smart ID card (at selected workstations only); and
|
|
-
|
utilise quick reference CD-ROMs.

Besides, Internet access is also available via the Multimedia Information System workstations provided at Hong Kong Central Library and 28 static libraries.

2. Children's Internet and Multimedia Workstation
To arouse children's interest in information technology and to familiarise them with computer skill, the Hong Kong Public Libraries provides over 170 Internet and Multimedia Workstations equipped with educational and informational software and CD-ROMs for children's use in its libraries.

3. Internet Express Terminal
In order to provide quick and immediate access to Internet for library users, the Hong Kong Public Libraries has installed over 100 Internet Express Terminals (IET) by phases at its branches since 2005. Library users aged 12 or above are welcome to use the terminals for checking web-based emails or surfing the Internet without prior reservation. Each session lasts for 15 minutes.
A new model of IET was introduced in 2009 to further improve the service. New features include handwriting pad for Chinese input, USB slot for flash memory devices, and screen magnification software for the visually impaired, etc. Furthermore, the height of the screen and keyboard of the terminal is adjustable to facilitate usage by wheelchair users.
4. Wireless Internet Access
Starting from November 2008, wireless Internet access is available at all 67 static public libraries provided by the Government WiFi Programme (GovWifi).
