Internet Express Terminal
Ready, Free, Internet access ready at hand
In order to provide quick and immediate access to Internet for library users, Hong Kong Public Libraries has installed Internet Express Terminals (IETs) at its branches* across the territory. Library users aged 12 or above are welcome to use IETs for checking web-based emails or surfing the Internet without prior reservation. Each session lasts for 15 minutes.
The service was pioneered at 9 branches since 2005, and the new model IET was introduced in 2009 for further improvement of the service. New features include handwriting pad for Chinese input, USB slot for flash memory devices, and screen magnification software for the visually impaired, etc. Furthermore, the height of the screen and keyboard of the new model IET is adjustable for wheelchair users.
Library users may get further details of the service from the FAQs. Please pay special attention to the following points:
-
For protection of users' privacy, IET will automatically log off at the end of a session or when it has been left idle for 5 minutes. All browsing history or downloaded files will be cleared automatically.
-
Users are reminded to save their files from the “Download Folder” of new model IET to their own USB flash memory device before the end of a session. Users are advised to make reservation for use of other Internet workstations in libraries if download time of files would be longer than 15 minutes.
