With the aims to enrich knowledge,
support lifelong learning
and promote reading among
the society, the Hong Kong
Public Libraries (HKPL) website
has been well received since
its launch, recording 2.2
million visitors, 23 million
hit rates in the first three
quarters of 2005. To give
users greater convenience
and improve communication
with the public, the HKPL
will soon complete a major
revamp on its homepage to
offer users an uncluttered
and easy navigation on its
site.
The revamped homepage (http://www.hkpl.gov.hk)
has a refreshingly new appearance
and clear navigation flow.
Enhanced with user-friendly
navigational features, it
is more interactive, systematic
and informative. It contains
up-to-date and useful information
on library facilities and
services and gives the Internet
users easier access to most
frequently used library services
such as library catalogue,
renewal and reservation of
library materials, borrower
record enquiry, email notification
services, membership, MMIS,
eBook, web resources and information
including library location
and hours, highlighted extension
activities.
The new-look website also
contains some new features.
They include an interactive
map with links to the public
libraries across the territory,
calendar and archives of HKPL's
extension activities, seasonal
presentation for different
festivals, real-time display
of weather, as well as a new
section for kids and teens
with attractive design and
new contents such as websites
on various topics, search
strategy and topical guides
for students.
