The Book Donation and Sale Campaign 2004 held on February 21 and 22 at the Hong Kong Central Library, Yuen Wo Road Sports Centre and the Tsz Wan Shan Shopping Centre received overwhelming response from the public with both the number of participants and books sold greater than those of last year. The two-day donated book sale attracted a total of about 21,000 people who bought about 160,000 books. Over $810,000 was raised for the Community Chest of Hong Kong.

The Book Donation and Sale Campaign 2004 was jointly organized by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the Home Affairs Department, the Hong Kong Housing Authority, Hongkong Post, the Community Chest of Hong Kong and the Agency for Volunteer Service. Thanks to the tremendous support and generous donations from the public including individual donors, publishers, schools, university libraries and youth centres, this yearˇ¦s campaign was able to collect over 210,000 books.

The unsold books will be donated to various charitable and community service organizations including the Correctional Services Department or reserved for next year's campaign.
