MMIS extends
its service network and hours
The Multimedia Information System
(MMIS) of the Hong Kong Public Libraries
(HKPL) has recently further extended
its services to a total of 25 public
libraries as well as its online service
hours, following its first phase of
extension last April.
Subsequent to this second phase
of extension, the MMIS is now available
at the workstations of the following
25 major and district libraries
across the territory. Readers can
also access the system through the
Internet from 9am to midnight from
Thursday to Monday and on public
holidays; from 9am to 9pm on Tuesday;
and from 1pm to 9pm on Wednesday.
Through the MMIS, readers can access
over 90,000 audio-visual and CD-ROM
items and more than 1.8 million
digitized images and documents,
such as back issues of Hong Kong
newspapers and clippings, house
programmes of cultural and arts
performances, posters, maps, photos,
books and manuscripts, as well as
about 80 online reference resources
covering various topics. Users can
also reserve the use of libraries'
MMIS workstations, audio and video
materials, CD-ROM databases, CD-ROMs
for children of the system.
