Creativity and Innovation Resource Centre enhances creativity and innovative thinking

Creativity and innovation are essential in today's ever-changing society. In the classroom, in business, as well as in design and the arts, thinking outside the box has never been so important. Now members of the public have a new resource centre to help them in their creative endeavours

Newly established last November at the reference library of the City Hall Public Library, the Creativity and Innovation Resource Centre is a joint project by the Hong Kong Public Libraries of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and the Creative Initiatives Foundation.

The Centre houses more than 1,500 reference books and journals dealing with creativity and innovative problem-solving skills. Its core collection is made up of 1,000 works suggested by the International Centre for Studies in Creativity of Buffalo State College. Some are even out-of-print books.

Among the Centre's collection are a wide range of resource materials dealing with children and young adults, publications on educational leadership, arts in education, early childhood development, learning theory, multiple intelligences, motivation, co-operative learning and education for gifted children. General reference books that will spur creative thinking and brainstorming in business and daily lives are also available. A number of books deal with the creative processes of famous innovative thinkers.

With a floor area of about 50 sq. m., the Centre is equipped with a reading room with seating for over 20, two computer terminals for Internet browsing and one Online Public Access Catalogue terminal. Relevant Chinese books and audio-visual materials will be added to the collection in future to better cater for the needs of local readers.
