Music Encounter
: Exhibition of Ng Tai-kong's Works
Decendants
of Mr Ng Tai-kong, the founder of Hong
Kong Chinese Orchestra have recently heeded
the call from the HKPL's Hong Kong Music
Collection Campaign to donate a number
of Mr Ng's original music scores, manuscripts,
photos and performance leaflets to public
libraries.
Mr Ng is a well-respected local music
master who devoted most of his life to
fostering the development of contemporary
Chinese music and nurturing young musicians
in Hong Kong. He has written about a hundred
theme songs for Hong Kong and Taiwan films
including the popular A Touch of Zen,
Raining in the Mountain, The Story of
Dr SUN Yat-sen and the award-winning Ti-ying
and Legend of the Mountains. Blending
Chinese music with western orchestration,
Mr Ng has also composed and re-arranged
some well-known Chinese music such as
Dance among the Coconut Groves, Chance
Encounter, The Eighteen Variations on
a Hu Pipe Melody, dance dramas Romance
of the Eastern Sea and Gaohu concerto
The Butterfly Lovers. Many of these still
inspire music lovers today.
