Historical Manuscripts to Central Library
In
January, member of the Standing Committee
of the National Committee of the Chinese
People's Political Consultative Conference
(CPPCC) and the Deputy Director of the
Committee of Historical Materials of the
CPPCC, Mr Leo Lee Tung-hai, donated on
behalf of the CPPCC, a collection of manuscripts
documenting contemporary history of China
to the Hong Kong Central Library.
In receiving the donation, the Secretary
for Home Affairs, Dr Patrick Ho said that
the collection was one of the most important
documentation on modern Chinese history
and would be a great piece of information
for the public's reference and research.
The collection, which comes in 26 volumes
and 35 millions of Chinese characters,
has just been published after four years
of massive research and editorial work.
It covers contemporary history from late
Qing Dynasty to the year 1949.
The collection is now available for public
reference at the Central Reference Library
of the Hong Kong Central Library.
