New Tung Chung Public Library opens to public

The rapid development of Tung Chung new town in recent years has resulted in an ever-growing demand from local residents for public library services. To serve the needs of the local community, the Tung Chung Public Library at Yat Tung Estate was reprovisioned to the Tung Chung Municipal Services Building as a district library on 27 July, with enhanced library facilities and services.

Apart from facilities such as an adult library, children’s library, newspapers and periodicals section, extension activities room and exhibition area, self-service book borrowing and renewal service and Internet express terminal, new facilities and services in the 2,713-square-metre new library include express check-in service, self-service photocopying service, a leisure reading area and coffee corner, multimedia library, computer and information centre and students’ study room.

The library has an initial stock of more than 200,000 items including Chinese and English books, encyclopaedias, dictionaries, directories, compact discs and CD-ROMs, and more than 120 newspaper and periodical titles for people of all ages and interests.

The library will also organize extension activities such as book displays, storytelling for children, subject talks and computer literacy workshops to promote reading. Students and educational organizations are welcome to contact the library for group visits. For enquiries, please call 2109 3011.
