Summer Reading Month 2009 ensures summer fun

Hey kids, any plan for this year's long summer holiday? Come and join us to enjoy unlimited fun in the Summer Reading Month 2009!

This summer, the Hong Kong Public Libraries is presenting the Summer Reading Month programme which includes a thematic exhibition for children titled 'The Family of Chinese Nation' between 18 July and 18 August at the Exhibition Gallery of the Hong Kong Central Library (HKCL). The exhibition is part of the Summer Reading Month 2009, starting from 18 July, which brings to children and parents a host of interesting activities. This year, the annual programme continues with its objective of promoting reading among children with a special focus to introduce different ethnic groups in China.

Meeting different Chinese ethnic groups at HKCL

The thematic exhibition offers children a delightful opportunity to learn and appreciate more about the cultures of different Chinese ethnic groups in an interesting setting, by introducing their food, dances and music, legends and myths as well as many other cultural traditions and customs.

Not to be missed are the variety shows at the Central Stage where refreshing performances such as Chinese magic show, Peking and Kunqu Opera, Chinese folk dance, traditional Chinese vaudeville and mask changing arts will be a cooling feast for the eyes and ears in this hot summer break! Two talks on paired reading for teachers and parents and two contests, namely 'Contest on Dramatisation of Chinese Ethnic Group Stories for Families' and 'Contest on Chinese Culture Talent Show', are also on the list.

Loads of interesting activities lining up

Other than the activities and exhibition at the HKCL, we have also organized an array of interesting and enriching workshops for children and parents, storytelling sessions and book exhibitions in other public libraries.

Don't miss this family-friendly extravaganza which is guaranteed to inspire and delight! For details, please refer to the programme booklet distributed at the public libraries and the HKPL website or call 2921 2660 / 2921 2646.
