To celebrate this year's World Book Day and to mark the 60th Anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, the Hong Kong Public Libraries organized the '4ĄD23 World Book Day Creative Competition' on the theme 'China Today' for participants to express their passion and demonstrate their understanding of modern China.
About 1,300 entries were received and the prize presentation ceremony was held at the Hong Kong Central Library on April 18. Award winners of primary and secondary students received prizes for their impressive collage works and excellent writings. Capturing different facets of today's China, the winning entries demonstrated the students' innovative thinking on modern China as well as their extensive reading on China's development and the Chinese culture.
Winning works are on display at the HKPL's website. A roving exhibition is also being held at 19 district libraries from now to mid-September.
Furthermore, a writing competition on the same theme was also recently held in the Shenzhen Library. As a cultural exchange, winning works from both cities will be displayed at each other's libraries.
