Anyone who ever walks past the Tong Ming Street Sitting-out Area in Tseung Kwan O will not miss its surrounding wall. The 43-metre long wall is full of colourful paintings of different kinds of sports. It is the concerted effort of over 30 students and parents who participated in the 'Community Wall Painting: Parent-child Workshop' which aimed at celebrating the coming 2009 East Asian Games and promoting reading and sports in Sai Kung district.
Jointly organized by the Tseung Kwan O Public Library, Sai Kung District Council and Sai Kung District Office last July, the workshop comprised of four morning sessions. Participants first gathered in the Tseung Kwan O Public Library to familiarize themselves with the public library's catalogue, online databases and information searching techniques. Then, with the guidance of drawing tutors, they started to sketch and draw pictures by making reference to library materials on the subject of sports. Eventually, they painted their own pictures on the wall at the Tong Ming Street Sitting-out Area.
Participants expressed that the workshop helped enhance their knowledge in researching library resources and creative drawing, whereas parents appreciated the valuable chance of painting on such a large outdoor wall with their children together.
