Children in Sham Shui Po district enjoyed a Delightful Reading Journey last summer through participating in a summer reading programme which was jointly organized by the Hong Kong Public Libraries and the Sham Shui Po District Council.

Aimed at encouraging children's profitable use of leisure during summer holidays, cultivating their reading habit and promoting reading in the community, the reading programme included a library promotion day, story-telling sessions for children, storytelling workshops and parent-child workshops. All of them were held between last July and August in the public libraries, community libraries and shopping malls in Sham Shui Po District.

Participants who had read the highest number of books and joined most of the programme's activities during the programme period, the most actively participating school and community library were presented with certificates in an award presentation ceremony in late September. Following the ceremony was a subject talk delivered by the famous local author, Ms Ma Chui Lo, on reading and writing.
