Taking a worldwide cultural tour with HKPL this summer

With the summer holiday approaching, are you ready for it?

This summer, the Hong Kong Public Libraries is presenting the Summer Reading Month programme which includes a thematic exhibition for children titled 'A Cultural Voyage Around the World' between 19 July and 19 August at the Exhibition Gallery of the Hong Kong Central Library. The exhibition is part of the Summer Reading Month 2008, starting from 19 July, which brings to children and parents a host of interesting activities. This year, the annual programme continues with its objective of promoting reading among children with a special focus to introduce different facets of world culture.

Enjoy a cultural voyage around the world

The thematic exhibition invites children to a delightful and entertaining round-the-world trip and encourages them to learn and appreciate more about the cultures of different parts of the world, by introducing the landmarks, landscape, food, sports and music, festivals and many other cultural traditions and customs of the six major continents in the world.

Not to be missed are the variety shows at the Main Stage where refreshing performances such as magic show, handbell and Erhu playing, Japanese Kendo, musical drama of the famous story Around the World in 80 Days, dances and Czech puppet show. All these make a cooling feast for the eyes and ears in this hot summer break! Two talks on paired reading for teachers and parents and two contests, namely 'Family Story-telling and Dramatization Contest: Olympic Spirit' and 'Contest: Create Your Own Game', are also on the list.

Loads of interesting activities lining up

Other than the activities and exhibition at the Hong Kong Central Library, the Hong Kong Public Libraries has also organized an array of interesting and enriching workshops for children and parents, storytelling sessions and book exhibitions in other public libraries.

Don't miss this family-friendly extravaganza which is guaranteed to inspire and delight! For details, please refer to the programme booklet distributed at the public libraries or click here  or call 2921 2646.
