Gearing up for the Olympics with Hong Kong Public Libraries

While we are expecting the excitement of the Olympic Games 2008, why not visit the Hong Kong Public Libraries (HKPL) to experience the Olympic spirit and enrich your sports knowledge beforehand?

To mark the coming Olympic Games, the HKPL has a list of programmes on offer this year, ranging from a school-wide creative competition to storytelling series and roving exhibitions.

4.23 World Book Day Creative Competition on 'Sports and I'

While encouraging students to enrich themselves through reading and creative activities, the Competition also aims at promoting the sportsmanship and values conveyed by the Olympic Games.

Depending on their categories in the competition, participants will show their favourite sports in a collage work, or write about their favourite athletes, or express their views or feelings on a particular moment of a sports event shown in a picture.

Olympic Stories Series: Enlightening your Soul

Fancy knowing more about the Olympic Games and the stories of some of the sports stars? Interactive story-telling sessions on athletes' stories have been on show since last December until May in more than 30 public libraries to enhance children's reading interest and their understanding of the Olympic spirit.

Book display enhance knowledge on Olympics

A year-round roving book exhibition on 'Fitness for the Olympic Games' has been organized to showcase selected library collection on Olympic Games and sports in various libraries for adults and children. A roving panel exhibition on 'Exercise and Health' is also to be held from end January to end February in six public libraries to promote the importance of sports to health and fitness.

For details of the creative competition, the Olympic Stories Series and the roving exhibitions, please visit the HKPL website.
