Enjoy a Chinese cultural tour at the Little Dragon TownĄ@        Summer Reading Month 2007

With the summer holiday just around the corner, are you ready for it?

This summer, the Hong Kong Public Libraries is presenting the Summer Reading Month programme which includes a thematic exhibition entitled 'Little Dragon Town - A Chinese Cultural Tour' between 21 July and 20 August at the Exhibition Gallery of the Hong Kong Central Library. The exhibition is part of the Summer Reading Month 2007, starting from 21 July, which brings to children and parents a host of interesting activities. This year, the annual programme continues with its objective of promoting reading among children, but with a special focus to introduce the different facets of Chinese culture.

Enjoy a Chinese cultural tour at the Little Dragon Town

In the Little Dragon Town, a traditional Chinese town, you can see different ancient Chinese inventions and discoveries in the market place, learn more about China's ancient costumes  in  the clothing store, meet ancient prominent figures at a traditional tea house, get to know more about origins of different Chinese surnames in a mini palace, enjoy video shows at a classic Chinese pavilion, play Chinese chess on a gigantic chessboard, read books on Chinese cultures at a traditional Chinese study, or decode Chinese hieroglyphics on a cave wall.

Not to be missed are the variety shows at the Main Stage where refreshing performances such as lion dance, drums and Erhu playing, children Cantonese opera, mask changing performance, Chinese magic and puppet shows will be a cooling feast for the eyes and ears in this hot summer break! A talk on paired reading by Auntie Choi, a professional story-teller, for teachers and parents is also on the list.

Loads of interesting activities lining up

Other than the activities and exhibition at the Hong Kong Central Library, the Hong Kong Public Libraries also organizes an array of interesting and enriching workshops and storytelling sessions in other public libraries.

Don't miss this family-friendly extravaganza which is guaranteed to inspire! For details, please refer to the programme booklet distributed at the public libraries and the HKPL website or call 2921 2646.
