To meet the needs of the 21st century, the Business and Industry Library was put into operation in September 2003, following the completion of the first phase renovation project of the City Hall Public Library. Located at the 11th floor of City Hall Public Library, the Business and Industry Library is specialized for serving the business and industry sectors as well as members of the general public who are interested in the subjects.

A wide range of resources available

In addition to business and industry reference books, the Library also stocks materials such as journals, microforms, online databases and other electronic resources on related subjects.

The Business and Industry Library has at present a collection of over 20,000 items covering the following materials:
* Reference books on finance, banking securities, insurance, logistics, business management, trade regulations, industrial technology and manufacturing industries, etc.;
* Some 600 journals in Chinese and English from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and overseas to provide up-to-date business information, industry products and market development, etc.;
* Online databases on regional analysis, economic indicators, statistical data, market research reports, company profiles, trade regulations, etc.; and
* The Hong Kong Exchanges Collection which includes information such as IPOs, daily quotations, annual reports, etc. of the listed companies in Hong Kong.

An ideal reference centre for research and study

Miss Tse, Mr Lau and Mr Tang, all working in Central, have been frequent visitors to the Business and Industry Library since its opening. They usually go there to search for work-related information and to use the business and finance online databases. Taking part-time courses on finance, Mr Lau adds that the library, with its rich resources and quiet environment, is an ideal reference centre for research and study.

Comprehensive reference resources to meet self-learners' needs

The Hong Kong Information Section of the City Hall Reference Library stocks directories, annuals, statistical reports and government publications on business and industry sectors. The Creativity and Innovation Resource Centre on 10/F also provides titles on innovative management such as creative leadership, creative thinking, organizational development, paradigm shifts and product development.
