Subject Talk on "Stories from Old Photos ¡V Hong Kong Transport in a Century"
In the mid-19th century, the major modes of transports in Hong Kong were very basic including rickshaws, horse-drawn carriages and wooden boats. From the late 19th century, there were many large-scale transport systems such as peak tram, tram, railway and ferry developed in Hong Kong while motor vehicles were becoming popular. In the early 20th century, many public bus companies were established to provide services to cope with the demand for road transport. After the World War II, the productivity in Hong Kong grew rapidly and the land, sea and air transport developed in full speed. Nowadays, the transport system in Hong Kong is well developed, providing efficient public transport services in the territory. Mr. CHENG Po-hung will illustrate the history of Hong Kong transport with old photos, maps and postcards in the talk.
