Hong Kong Literature Collection

The impetus of assemble the Hong Kong Literature Collection emerged from the introduction by the Hong Kong Public Libraries, in 1994, of a writer-in residence programme. The appointed incumbent, Mr. LIU Yi-chang edited a Who is Who in Hong Kong Literature to launch the project. At a total stock of about 45,000 items of library materials, the room collects books, manuscripts, letters, portraits, clippings and historical documents for public use in the library. In addition to library acquisition, the collection also owes debt to the generous donations by quite a number of donors who have contributed greatly to preserving the relics of local culture.

Partial collection of authors' biographies, bibliographies, manuscripts and clippings related to local literature have been digitized and can be accessed via the Multimedia Information System of Hong Kong Public Libraries. Readers can also access to the Hong Kong Literary Authors' Database of nearly 1,000 authors' biographies, bibliographies of works and criticism of literary authors via the workstation in the Hong Kong Literature Room.

Members of public are welcome to search the Library's Online Public Access Catalogue for any specific titles of the library stock.

The above collection is available for public use in the Hong Kong Literature Room of the Hong Kong Central Library (8/F) during library opening hours. For further information, please contact the Librarian on duty at the Hong Kong Literature Room or call 2921 0323.
