The Hong Kong Exchanges Collection was donated to the City Hall Public Library in August 1991 by the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Ltd. under a Stock Market Information Donation Programme. The Collection was originally named as the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Collection. Upon the mergence of the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Ltd., Hong Kong Futures Exchange Ltd. and Hong Kong Securities Clearing Company Ltd. into Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Ltd. in March 2000, the Collection was renamed.
Under the same Donation Programme, the Collection has also been available to the general public in the Sha Tin Public Library since August 1995 and the Hong Kong Central Library since its opening in May 2001.
